i) Consultation
The first thing to do is schedule a consultation with one of our male physicians to discuss your symptoms, have an examination and receive an accurate diagnosis. We can usually schedule a procedural date within two weeks of consult. If you have already been diagnosed with Frenulum Breve by another doctor, please contact us to discuss booking consultation and procedure on the same day.
ii) The Procedure
Frenuloplasty takes about 30-minutes and can be performed using local anesthetic in clinic. The tight band of skin is cut horizontally using a Radiosurgery device, which cauterises the skin as it cuts to minimise bleeding (similar to laser). The glans is rotated upwards and any tightness released. The area is then cleaned and your doctor may use a few tiny dissolving stitches running lengthways along the frenulum to increase its length. Antibiotic ointment is applied and post-care instructions will be explained.
iii) Post-Procedure
Yes, there will be a bit of discomfort on the day as the local wears off, but most patients can head home within an hour and will be fully healed and back to normal within a couple weeks. We recommend the following:
- You should clean and dry the wound after passing urine, for 7 days.
- If a dressing is applied, try to keep it on for about 24 hours, but remove if it gets dirty.
- The stitches will dissolve in about 2 weeks, avoid touching or pulling them whilst dissolving.
- Roll down the foreskin twice a day to prevent any sticking and maximize elasticity.
- It will be slightly tender so best not to have sex or masturbate for a month.
- Take any prescribed medication as directed and use Paracetamol for pain relief.
- Don’t go swimming or use spa baths for two weeks
